Contacting Your Physician

There will be times when you need to contact your physician during office hours or after hours.

The following is a handy checklist for what to do:
  • Be prepared to discuss your problem or need right away, especially if you've phoned after hours. Please have someone contact the physician on call for you if you are unable to speak to her directly.
  • Please inform the physician on call or the answering service personnel if you are pregnant and if so your expected due date and the number of weeks pregnant that you currently are.
  • Define your problems and symptoms. Write these down and keep them by the telephone so you can report them accurately and completely.
  • Be sure to report results of self-tests and symptoms you have been monitoring, such as a temperature of 101 or higher for two days, diarrhea that has lasted for 48 hours or any bleeding or discharge that you experience.

  • Be prepared to follow the instructions given by the physician on call. Your health and safety is our concern.
  • Have your pharmacy phone number available in case the physician needs to prescribe medication for your problem.
  • Make sure to follow up with the office the next business day and let the receptionist know that you spoke to the physician on call.
  • Ask what problems may occur that would require you to go to the emergency room.
  • Please respect our physicians by remembering that they are available after hours for medical emergencies only. We would appreciate a phone call during business hours to address any routine questions, medication refills or appointment needs that you may have. Thank You!
